What does a Medical Lab Technician do?
A Medical Lab Technician (MLT) performs tests on blood, tissue, and other body fluids to help doctors diagnose, treat, and prevent disease. What does a Medical Lab Technician Program at Fortis College, Baton Rouge look like?
- Earn an Associate Degree in Occupational Studies in as little as 96 instructional weeks

- Graduates of the Fortis MLT program may be certified as Medical Laboratory Technicians by passing either of the following certification exams: American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Some states may require the graduate to sit for a state licensure exam as well. *
